What is a Mic Drop?

mic drop

NOUN

  • An instance of deliberately dropping or tossing aside one's microphone at the end of a performance or speech one considers to have been particularly impressive.

    Examples ‘Nuff said. Mic drop!'

  • No mic drop in history will ever be as thoroughly scrutinized as the one performed by Barack Obama during his final White House correspondents’ dinner on Saturday evening. Historians hundreds of years from now will refer to his “Obama out” in the same breath as the Emancipation Proclamation and “Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall.” But how did we get here, and what does it all mean?

People post dramatic, funny and deep thoughts and actions everyday.  But every rant or proclamation is not a 'mic drop'.  A 'mic drop' is when you say or do something that no one can easily repeat or deny its impact.  If when you hear or see something and all you can do is say a long 'ddaaammmnnn' while you make the 'that gotta hurt face', you probably just witnessed a 'mic drop'.
